The Thanet Road Run Home Page.
The next run will be on Sunday 12th July 2020!
10am Ramsgate Boating Pool,
Royal Esplanade,
CT11 0LE.
Welcome to the home page for the Thanet Road Run. The run was originally created by a lovely local man called Mick Martin and was conceived to welcome the return of open top East Kent bus Pride Of Thanet (RVB977S) into the world of preservation. The run followed Pride Of Thanet's original bus route, service number 69 which ran from Ramsgate, through Broadstairs, Margate and Westgate to Minnis Bay. Since then, the run has taken place most year with a wide variety of vehicles from many different operators. The run is a leisurely drive around the Thanet coastline with a lunch stop in Westgate. It's free to travel but we like to collect money for a good local cause.
More information to follow soon....
Please note:
1) No fares are charged and it's free to ride the buses.
2) We do collect for local animal charity Thanet Cats In Crisis so please give generously to this worthy cause.
3) All buses are provided by their respective owners and maybe subject to change at short notice.
4) You are actively encouraged to ride on the buses but please remember these are privately owned and much loved vehicles. Please act respectful and responsible on the vehicles and please take your litter home.
5) A lunch stop of well over an hour is provided. We do not supply the food. Please bring your own money or, if the weather is nice and you don't fancy fish and chips, a picnic. There's plenty of grassy areas on the cliffs near where we stop or there's the beach. From 2019 we will be serving three locations for lunch break. Eastern Esplanade for Pav's & Toilets, Westgate Railway Station for Co-Op, Westgate Fish & Chips, Beano Cafe & Toilets and Sea Road for West Bay Cafe & Toilets. This is to ease the wait for food. You will be picked up where you are dropped off so please don't be late!
6) All timings are approximate as traffic can be heavy over certain parts of the route.
7) You are responsible for making sure you get back on the bus at the various stops! We only pass one way along the route so if you miss us, the next vintage bus might not be along until next year!
8) At the various stops, you are more than welcome to swap buses.
9) The locations listed above are the only stops served due to traffic congestion. (6 buses moving in convoy can bring a town like Broadstairs to a halt if we have to stop!)
We hope you can join us and have a really fun day riding vintage buses around the beautiful Thanet coastline.
